Between forests and the sea, from origin to destination
This route follows the symbolic journey of cork from the workshops of Calonge, where it was crafted, through the homes and communities where it was traditionally processed, to the coast at Sant Antoni, where it was shipped for commercial distribution. It is a cultural and scenic experience that weaves together tangible and intangible heritage through the stories, places and living memories of the local community.
Calonge i Sant Antoni is a place where the history of cork is written through the people who worked it, the skilled hands that shaped it, and the coastal vessels that carried it across the sea. Although the municipality has only small areas of cork oak forest, the cork industry shaped generations of local families. Everything began in the small family workshops, where cork stoppers were crafted one by one before beginning their journey to the sea.
